Realizing high-level injection molding technology and stable supply: New product development for a plastic product manufacturer

Maruhachi Kasei Co., Ltd. has been manufacturing resin and plastic products since its founding in 1971. Leveraging the technology and know-how we have cultivated through manufacturing industrial products such as automobile parts, we are able to consistently support the development of original products for small and medium-sized businesses and individuals, from planning to production and sales.

Stable supply of MADE IN JAPAN quality By leveraging our technological capabilities in resin and plastic product manufacturing that we have cultivated over more than half a century, and by proactively introducing new equipment, we are able to manufacture resin parts that meet a variety of needs, including lightness, strength, and design. With the quality control system cultivated through the manufacturing of automobile parts, we are able to provide a stable supply of "MADE IN JAPAN" quality.

Serious manufacturing undertaken by small factories At Maruhachi Kasei, we have built a production system that ensures strict quality control and strict delivery deadlines while undertaking the manufacturing of automobile parts and other products. We aim to manufacture products with higher precision, and also support small-lot, high-mix production.
And We are also developing our own products by leveraging our many years of know-how.
Our own brand, OUROBOROS, was born out of the desire of our representative, who is also a biker, to create glove holders that he could be satisfied with. We use high-strength resin to develop camping gear and outdoor products that are highly durable. We have received favorable reviews from many customers, including products that use phosphorescent materials that are useful for nighttime disaster prevention, and products that collaborate with famous animation works.

Strength of integrated support from product planning to sales Maruhachi Kasei is a comprehensive partner that helps customers realize what they want to create. With our many years of experience and technical capabilities, as well as the mobility that leverages our venture mindset, we turn our customers' dreams into reality.
Even if you don't have drawings or specific ideas, as long as you have hand-drawn rough sketches or images, we will do our best to support product development through careful interviews.
In addition, we can take care of everything from development to sales by leveraging our product planning, OEM, financing (crowdfunding), market development, and PR know-how on SNS, which we have cultivated through the launch and commercialization of our own brands. In addition, we utilize our strong network of partner companies to respond to a wide range of needs, not only for resins and plastics, but also for metal processing and cutting. Please feel free to contact us even if your project has been rejected by another company.

Quality standards and system building to achieve SDGs At Maruhachi Kasei, we have built a production system that ensures strict quality control and strict delivery deadlines while undertaking the manufacturing of automobile parts and other products. We aim to manufacture products with higher precision, and also support small-lot, high-mix production.

In order to achieve the SDGs, our company has built a system in which all employees produce and manage products to the same quality standards and can stably provide high-quality products. Specifically, we have established our own quality check and certification system and are developing products that use recycled materials such as bioplastics.

In terms of the environment, we are promoting sustainable production by eliminating energy consumption, noise and vibration issues by introducing energy-saving machinery, switching to LED lighting in our factories, and reducing water usage through cooling towers.

When it comes to employment, we place emphasis on employee growth and job satisfaction, and aim to improve their quality of life. We are promoting a complete five-day work week system, reducing overtime, and increasing the rate of paid leave, creating a comfortable work environment. We have enhanced training and support for obtaining qualifications, and are conducting human resource development that emphasizes ability. We will also actively recruit senior human resources and specified skill trainees.

Additionally, through the formulation of a business continuity plan (BCP) and regular training, we have built a system that enables prompt production recovery in the event of an emergency or disaster. We are proceeding with the preparation of action guidelines and communication networks in the event of a disaster, fire drills, and the installation of evacuation routes and fire extinguisher layout maps.

Production Examples

  • OUROBOROS CLIP

The OUROBOROS CLIP is a convenient item that allows you to easily clip items that are difficult to store, such as gloves and hats that are frequently put on and taken off during outdoor activities. Can also be used to hang lanterns and lights, or to secure tents and tarps. This product was successfully raised through crowdfunding.
There is also ``OUROBOROS CLIP Oboro (phosphorescent type)'' which uses 100% resin recycled from scrap materials and retains the same performance while adding the convenience of glowing in the dark.

・Wide grip opening of 10mm or more. It can securely hold thick objects such as caps and gloves.
・Load capacity 25kg. Uses high-strength resin that is also used in bulletproof glass and has excellent impact resistance and weather resistance.
・Purely made in Japan. Only domestically produced parts and materials are used.

  • Luminous S-shaped carabiner

This is also a product that was successfully raised through crowdfunding. This is a more functional S-shaped carabiner instead of the traditional D-shaped carabiner. It has two hooks on the top and bottom, which are useful for hanging keys, keychains, etc. We use 100% resin recycled from scrap materials.

・Glows in the dark. It accumulates phosphorescence from the sun and fluorescent lights and glows by itself, making it useful for night camping and disaster prevention scenes.
・An eco-friendly product made in Japan using recycled resin (polycarbonate) with excellent impact resistance and weather resistance.
    - Combines the convenience of an S-shaped hook and a carabiner. Can be installed and removed separately, and has a load capacity of 50kg.

Interview

Background on Participation in this Project

Up until now, our company has been in the business of resin molding for automobiles and building materials, but today, as we enter a period of transformation in industrial structure and social value, we feel that we need to transform ourselves as well.

We are currently focusing on developing our own products, and decided to participate in this project to find a new angle in the area of the environment.

Findings and impressions after participating

The industries in which our company has been involved have experienced strong economic fluctuations, and in Japan, where the population is decreasing rapidly, we feel that management that is increasingly responsive to changes in the environment is required.

Under these circumstances, we believe that developing and selling our own products is essential for sustainable management, and we strongly feel the importance of manufacturing from the consumer’s perspective, something we have never considered before.

By participating in this project, I felt that rather than aiming for high functionality such as durability, I was able to identify the usage scenario and narrow down the necessary functions, and was able to reach the prototype stage, which was a fruitful endeavor.

In the future, we would like to continue to improve the clips developed in this project and realize high added value using technology for environmentally friendly materials.

Future proposals from our company

I feel that we were able to discover novelty by not only simply switching to environmentally friendly materials, but also by discovering the latent needs of users before designing. We will continue to develop this product to improve product stability.
