Morimatsu Co., Ltd.

"Make with plastic, propose, solve" Manufacturer and distributor of eco-friendly plastic sheet products.

Polyvinyl chloride (hereinafter referred to as PVC) and polypropylene have excellent properties such as ease of processing, diverse functionality and design, and ease of recycling, and are used in a wide range of fields that are essential to our lives, such as stationery, novelty items, interior decoration, industrial materials, and medical products.
Morimatsu Co., Ltd. has made full use of the extensive know-how it has cultivated over many years in the processing and sales of various plastics, including PVC sheets, to give form to the ideas of its customers. We value the idea of “doing new things” inherited from our founder, and provide total support not only for processing and sales, but also from material selection to delivery. Our mission is to think together with our customers and provide the best solutions.

Advanced PVC processing to meet a wide range of needs When Morimatsu was first founded, it was engaged in the wholesale business of bags and belts, but after focusing on PVC, a new material at the time, it expanded into the sales and processing business of PVC materials. Since then, we have equipped various equipment such as cutting machines, press machines, slitter machines, and NC cutters to handle various types of processing of PVC sheets. In addition, we have advanced technological capabilities that allow us to meet the diverse needs of our customers, such as through heat treatment (annealing) to control dimensional accuracy and shape quality.

Strengths of being a comprehensive plastics company that covers a wide range of materials We handle raw materials from domestic PVC sheet manufacturers, and we offer a wide range of materials, from transparent to colored materials, from thin to thick, and from general-purpose products to highly functional products. Utilizing the know-how we have cultivated over many years, we provide consistent support from material selection to processing and delivery tailored to the application and needs in order to respond to customer requests such as “I want to make something like this!”
We can handle orders ranging from one item to large quantities. We also cover materials such as polypropylene (PP), polyethylene (PE), and polyurethane (PU), and as a total plastics company, we respond to customer requests with a one-stop service.

Aiming to create products that are rich and safe Our company develops and sells original products based on the concept of "protection."
・"Protect" important documents and contracts→ Clear holders, binders, files, etc.
・“Protect” your precious company environment→ Desk mats, partition curtains, acrylic stands, etc.
・Protect your precious patients→Patient identification wristbands, chart holders, plastic gloves, etc.
In addition, Morimatsu's various products and activities are imbued with the idea of "protection," including the production of armor using EVA resin and our mascot character "MamorinⒸ," which was created with the theme of "protection."
Furthermore, PVC is used in a wide variety of applications, including anti-static mats and partition curtains to protect products and circuit boards from static electricity, reflective vests to protect people from traffic accidents, and air tents and workports for emergencies. We will continue to provide products that emphasize "protection" so that people's lives can be enriched and secure.

Resource-saving PVC that reduces environmental impact Petroleum and salt are used as raw materials for PVC, but petroleum only accounts for about 40% of the total raw materials, making it a resource-saving material with a low environmental impact. In addition, many of our products are used for long periods of time, and they have characteristics that make them suitable for material recycling, reducing energy consumption and CO2 emissions.
At our company, we are promoting the handling of vinyl sheets made from recycled scrap materials and biomass sheets made using plant-based plasticizers, and we are also focusing on developing new materials and applications with unprecedented new functions. Furthermore, when it comes to recycling products after use, we aim to become a company that can contribute to society by reducing resource waste by utilizing new technologies and systems, and by pursuing "new things."

Production Examples

  • Size order service

By switching tools such as cutting with a knife and cutting with an end mill, we can handle custom cutting of various materials such as PVC, PET, acrylic, and nonwoven fabrics.
    Equipment used: ZUND G3 Cutter
Maximum processing size: width 1800mm x depth 3200mm material thickness up to 50mm

  • transparent table mat

Maximizes the adhesion between the table and the top plate, protects the table from scratches and dirt, and reduces noise when dishes are placed on it. It prevents copy ink from adhering to it and is just the right amount of hardness, making it a cushion to protect your table.

  • Biomass desk mat

In addition to the standard recycled desk mats and study mats that are compatible with optical mice, we have also added an environmentally friendly biomass type that uses plant-derived raw materials to our lineup.
The biomass desk mat is made from 40% recycled materials (compliant with the Green Purchasing Law). PVC AWARD 2021 prize winner.

  • EVA armor

    Armor made of EVA resin.
It is rain resistant and lightweight, making it easy for women and children to wear.

Efforts to develop new environmentally friendly products

Development of new material by reusing PVC sheet scraps

We developed a new material by reusing the soft PVC sheet scraps generated during the manufacturing process.

Recycled materials require a lot of work to process and are expensive, so this product aims to be recycled as a material with new value.

This sheet has a craft-like appeal that cannot be achieved with virgin materials, making use of the characteristics of offcuts such as each one being different, irregular, and uneven.

Interview

Background on Participation in this Project

The PVC material we mainly use has previously been used for stationery such as desk mats, and as a separator to prevent droplets during the coronavirus pandemic, but demand has fluctuated rapidly and demand is on the decline in today’s world where environmental concerns are a priority. At the same time, our customers are also in a transition period, changing from BtoB to BtoC. I participated in this project because I wanted to make small changes in order to respond to such situations.

Findings and impressions after participating

As part of our project, we discussed ways to reuse used PVC, which has been increasingly handled in recent years, with experts, considered recycling methods that would highlight the appeal of the material, and repeatedly produced prototypes.

Through the development of this prototype, we feel that we will be able to showcase our value-added recycled materials in preparation for exhibitions.

Future proposals from our company

With the recent trend of moving away from plastics, PVC material has gotten a bad impression, but it is still an indispensable material in daily life.

Due to the recent supply and demand balance, we are developing initiatives to shift our focus from BtoB to BtoC. Among these, in consideration of consumer awareness, we are taking new initiatives to move away from manufacturing from a disposable perspective to manufacturing that will lead to a circular economy that does not rely solely on virgin materials.

As part of this project, we will participate in, I haven’t had much opportunity to work on it until now.

We took on the challenge of developing a way to recycle used scraps into new high-value-added materials.

Although there is still room for improvement as a product, we would like to continue this initiative, promote the appeal of recycled materials, develop new demand, and move forward as a company that can contribute to society.
